We have done a couple of videos on hydroponics but didn’t have many folks interested in the topic, however, George set up some jars for lettuce and basil this year. The lettuce was mainly for the guinea pigs and the basil was for me…I like to dehydrate it for recipes like my Chicken Bryan, YUM!

We have our spare room set up as the “grow room”. George has these metal shelves along the wall and has hung grow lights under the top shelf. Today I cut two heads of lettuce for the piggies and they loved it.

He had built a small greenhouse for seed starts but it can only really be used to harden new plants because it’s not insulated and gets too cold. So we continue to use the “grow room” for seed starts in the early spring too.

Well, why not use it for hydroponics in the wintertime? It’s sort of a pain to keep them watered, he says because he has to mix a solution for them every time. I cannot just water them. I won’t argue with his methods because, I mean, look at them. I just took some scissors and sniped the heads right off and done! Happy Piggies!
